About the Rock Island Armory Pro Ultra Match 9mm 5" Barrel 17-Rounds

Product Overview

The Rock Island Armory Pro Ultra Match 9mm is a modern evolution of the classic 1911 platform, engineered for the shooter who demands enhanced capacity and precision without sacrificing the legendary ergonomics of the design. Built around a full-size 5" barrel and chambered in 9mm Luger, this pistol is designed for competitive shooting sports, tactical training, and dedicated home defense. It distinguishes itself with a high-capacity 17-round magazine, moving beyond the traditional single-stack format to offer more rounds on tap. The Pro Ultra Match is for the discerning enthusiast who appreciates the 1911's trigger and handling but requires the practical benefits of a service-caliber capacity and modern sighting systems for superior performance.

Key Features

• Enhanced 9mm Capacity: Utilizes a double-stack frame to house a 17-round magazine, providing a significant tactical and competitive advantage over standard 1911 models without excessive bulk.
• Precision Sight System: Features an adjustable LPA target rear sight paired with a high-visibility green fiber optic front sight. This setup allows for exact windage and elevation adjustments and rapid front sight acquisition in various lighting conditions.
• Full-Length Picatinny Rail: The integrated rail under the 5" barrel provides a secure mounting platform for weapon-mounted lights, lasers, or other essential accessories, making the pistol ready for low-light home defense or duty use.
• Performance-Triggered Components: Includes a skeletonized hammer for a faster lock time and a match-grade barrel for improved accuracy potential. The checkered rubber grips ensure a firm, comfortable hold during extended range sessions.
• Durable Blued Finish: The classic hot salt bluing provides a deep, rich finish that offers time-tested corrosion resistance and a professional appearance.
• Classic 1911 Controls: Maintains the familiar 1911 manual of arms, including the grip safety, thumb safety, and superb single-action trigger pull that enthusiasts trust.

Performance & Applications

This pistol's specific feature set makes it an excellent choice for several defined roles. For USPSA or IDPA competition in divisions that allow modified 1911 models, the 5" barrel and adjustable sights provide a long sight radius and customizable point of impact, while the 9mm chambering offers manageable recoil for faster follow-up shots. As a home defense firearm, the full-length rail accepts a white light—a critical tool for positive identification—and the 17-round capacity reduces reloading concerns in a critical situation. Finally, for the serious recreational shooter, it serves as a high-round-count training tool that bridges the gap between traditional 1911 feel and modern tactical functionality, allowing for affordable, high-volume practice with 9mm ammunition.
